Gartner confirms Magic Quadrant for Software Asset Management solutions
In June 2016 I wrote a blog on the need for a Magic Quadrant for Software Asset Management solutions, calling on Gartner to meet customer demand.
A year later and there is some fantastic news to share. I have it on good authority from inside Gartner that the Magic Quadrant for SAM has finally been given the green light and that the research process will start in September. Creating a Magic Quadrant is, not surprisingly, a major undertaking and it will likely take a team of analysts at Gartner a minimum of six months to complete.
In fact, Gartner says it is targeting an April 2018 release of the MQ. But as it’s Gartner and it’s the first time they’ve created this particular Magic Quadrant, I’d say June is more likely. Nevertheless, it is good news for organizations that are looking for an easy way to create a short-list of SAM solutions to consider.
Accepting that June 2018 is still (at the time of writing, at least) a long way away, Gartner has recently upgraded its online Peer Insight resource for Software Asset Management solutions, making it easier to dive into the relative strengths and weaknesses of individual products as well as compare solutions from different vendors.
It’s extremely gratifying to see how existing Snow Software customers have engaged with the site. As I write, 31 organizations using Snow’ SAM solutions have chosen to share their reviews (thank you!), nearly twice as many as any other vendor covered on the site.
You can read what Snow customers have to say here: Snow Software reviews on Gartner.
And while we wait for the Software Asset Management Magic Quadrant, I’m looking forward to Gartner’s ITFiPAM (IT, Finance, Procurement & Asset Management – what a mouthful!) events in Nashville and London in September. It will be interesting to hear the latest views from the Gartner analysts.
For our part, Snow will be demonstrating the value that Software Asset Management data and analytics can bring to the CIO and the wider IT organization when it comes to optimizing the speed and cost of Digital Transformation projects. We will be joined at both events by Snow Heroes – customer advocates who are happy to talk frankly about their experiences implementing and using Snow’s solutions. If you’re attending either event, I strongly recommend that you take 20 minutes to chat with them over coffee.
